Digital One is a joint venture, backed by GCap Media and Arqiva. It operates the largest DAB digital radio network in the world and is pioneering the role of digital radio in the commercial world.

It is committed to the long-term promotion of digital radio in the UK and stimulating the market is part of its licence remit. Digital One has the biggest investment programme of any radio operator in order to market the medium and promote the sale of digital radio receivers. With capital investment in its nationwide transmitter network and marketing activity throughout its licence term, Digital One's commitment in these two areas alone is in excess of £50m.

Digital One was awarded the sole UK National Multiplex licence for DAB digital radio in 1998 and started broadcasting in November 1999 under a renewable 12-year licence from the Radio Authority (now Ofcom). Together with the BBC, Digital One is a major stakeholder in the Digital Radio Development Bureau (DRDB), which is also supported by other commercial radio companies. Representatives from Digital One also work with the WorldDMB Forum to promote the medium internationally.

Digital One's head office is in central London
